Australian slang dictionary

Australian slang dictionary

According to this dictionary, a cockie cockie could be a New South Wales farmer or someone from New South Wales that looks like a cockroach. Better start reading up. Looks like a great site to learn the local slang.

Mmmmmm - a "cocky" can be a farmer or a bird (cockatoo) or a cockroach - I've never heard it used to describe a person as a cockroach - but I mightn't mix in the right circles! ;o)

Thank you for your comment. When I reread the definition just now, it looks like an insult more than anything else. Like a rivalry between states. I certainly would not want to be called a cockroach. I'm still trying to get a handle on "cheeky". My daughter-in-law says that about my new granddaughter. I sure hope that's a good thing because I think she's the cutest little baby and when I get pictures I see she's just a handful to take care of.
